It is not enough to merely defend democracy. To defend it may be to lose it; to extend it is to strengthen it. Democracy is not property; it is an idea.
It is a good idea to obey all the rules when you're young just so you'll have the strength to break them when you're old.
And so, my fellow americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.
I would rather be free in my mind, and be locked up in a prison cell, than to be a coward and not be able to say what I want.
